I have a 1999 fiat marea weekend (34,000 mles) which I bought in September, it's a fairly nice car - a bit crap on fuel but hey ho. My problem is this, about a month after I first bought it one morning I came to take the kids to school and the damned thing wouldn't start, so I leaves it, goes back a coupla hours later and the blooming thing cracks up straight away - I think nothing of it - just a little glitch I thinks....... Coupla weeks later same thing again except instead of starting a couple of hours later it refused to start at all that day, in fact didn't start until 2 days later. My hubby had a look at the spark plugs after trying to start it and deduced that there was no fuel on them suggesting that there's no fuel getting thru (our last car was a diesel so he's a bit out of touch with these new fangled petrol engines!!) any way we forgot about it for a while until a couple of weeks ago it happened again, but then started about an hour later, and now this time it has just started after refusing to start for 3 days - it's like a stubborn child!!!! Anyway, I'm now thoroughly dissillusioned with fiats and want to get rid of this one unless i can sort this problem, does anyone have any ideas?? My hubby's quite good with engines (he replaced the engine on our last diesel) Please Help!!!!!

hey and welcome to the forum! :D

Try posting this in the Marea section too (i think there is one  ) u may get a little more help.
Soz i can't be of any assistance i drive that *looks at signiture pic*

You could possibly get more helpful answers if you try to describe the problem of it not starting...

ie. Does the starter motor turn properly? Does it start to spark then die out shortly? Slowly churns but doenst fire?

All subtle differences but could make finding the fault a bit easier and could differentiate the problem to different areas of the engine/iginition.

Luke

(ps.. post sounds harsh but isnt meant to be - promise :) )

Hi, thanks for replying - i used to have a 999fire engine uno 45!! Anyway as regards to explaining what it does or doesn't do when it doesn't start - it's really hard to explain it when I can't do the sound effects!!!! I guess the starter motor turns the engine over but it never cracks into life - it never even tries!!! then after 10 or so tries to start it the battery goes flat!!! :bang:
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it doesn't start although the days that it hasn't started have been damp - but then again we have had 3 or 4 days of non-stop rain and it started every time!!!!
Don't know whether this makes sense - i don't really know all the technical words to non-starting cars!!! I'm getting another diesel next time!!!! CHEERS, Lindsay

fuel pump may be on the way out. When you turn the key to position II can you hear a buzz? If not the fuel pump isn't pumping any fuel to the engine.

I'm fairly sure that there's a buzzing sound - but I'll check when I go out later. Also the code light DOES go out. Thanks you lot for replying, Lindsay
