Have you been using the aircon? If not, it might be full of bugs and bacteria. Had the same with my Laguna. Bought some stuff from Halfords and set the aircon on recirc and followed the instructions. Worked a treat.

Could possibly be around the fan itself. The connectors can sometimes get over heated if it's a bad contact and start to melt the plastic of the connector which might be what you're smelling.
Physically get in there and have a look as it'll be obvious if it is the connections. They'll be all deformed and discoloured.
I wouldn't continue running the fan though until you do find the cause as you don't want a fire breaking out.

You're lucky, only had my Multipla for a month or there-abouts, I stuck the heaters on the other morning and it smelt of poo.
My 10 week old son got the blame at the time but it was the same later on when I drove it to pick up my daughter. I checked everyones shoes and the carpets and the boot et al. But no suspects were found!
However when I went out in it today with the heaters on full it seems to have cleared.
Made me turn as green as the car! LOL

Not looked in to the Multi thread for a while, so delayed reply!
The smell may be from the resistor pack that is used to provide the different fan speeds. Its a green lump that is placed in the ducting just before the fan (so incoming air cools the resistors to stop them overheating). They do get pretty warm and if not used on the higher speeds for a while a film of dirt/dust seems to burn off them. (My Panda did the same thing a few weeks back when using the fan on speed 4 for the first time in ages)
