:( my engine temperature gauge does not rise above 2 bars affecting heater-or lack of! Had new thermostat fitted was OK for a week, then I adjusted heater conrol. Since then temperature has gone down to 2 bars.

Checked Radiator hose, left one is hot, right one almost cold. But engine does not overheat.

confused, can anyone help me as to what the problem may be? :bang:

boocar ;)

It sounds as if you have either an airlock or have fitted a dodgy thermostat.
The 1.9 JTD takes ages to warm up, and even when warm my heaters are certainly not as hot as many of the other cars ive owned.

thanks tiny :)

hubby is trying various things. he has taken it for several trips with cardboard etc over half the rad and off the rad.

hes using "old school" diagnostics from his trucking days!

Hi Boo. I'm no expert but as it occured after adjusting heater control I would almost certainly concur that it's an airlock. I'm sure if you search for 'airlock' on this forum, something will come up to help.:)

I am a cabbie and use mine as a cab. I had to come home last night because I was so cold. I wasn't moving much, so just had the car ticking over whilst waiting for a job, but because it has been soo cold here the car interior just didn't want to warm up.

Totally agree with earlier comments, these cars never seem to get as warm as other diesels and do take an age just to get up to a reasonable temperature.

Is this fault that has always been there or have you only noticed it recently?

The reason I ask couple of days ago temp was -3 here and I had noticed the temp was only showing 2 bars started moving and saw the temp bar go back down to 1 bar. Never, had any problems in usual weather, so thought if your problem is only recent is problem due to the extreme cold, more than fault of car.

I've got an '08 nosejob. Gets warm much quicker than my old uglybug and gets a little bit warmer too. I have to say though that in this weather when I tick over and sit in the car (chauffeur) the temp gauge drops from 4 or 3 bars to just 1 fairly rapidly and the warm air does cool some, but it is still acceptably warm.

I never had any probs with the old Multi on this score either. Still sounds like an airlock somewhere to me. Had a similar problem on my old Rover 600 and I am sure the garage bled some air from the heater matrix using a bleed screw/valve thing in the heater hose.

Curious.

thanks all replying.:worship:

i did say to hubby that the temp outside had dropped and was it due to this that he thought the heater was not working efficiently.

today he concluded it was the temp drop outside (the very cold preceeding days before the snow) and couple that with the heater not being as good as his Firebird he thought we had been ripped off!

we only bought the car October 2008.(y)

then today the accelator pedal stuck and it was revving high when stationary! wont print what he said lol!
but that is something i will keep my eye on.

the car is mine and i love it..nippy and easy to drive, park etc.
but i broke my foot 5 weeks after buying it..and am still in plaster..boy can't wait to get behind the wheel again!

again thanks guys x

Have to say my frogfront jtd always got snug in an acceptable time from a cold start ,and always got to 3 bars on the gauge no matter how cold it was within a couple of miles.

hi rolo
thanks
it got to 3 bars yesterday on the school run. so perhaps the prob is solved
by checking for airlock as suggested above. hubby has used an old trick of covering half the radiator though.

the temp is due to drop to -7 here tonight, but we cant check it as today it went into the garge via the RAC.

the accellator pedal was stuck at 3000 revs in stationary, and appears it has been a gradual thing.

initial conversation with garage -sounds expensive job

Yep i think its electonicaly controlled accelerator and can have problems , sure ive read summat about it somewhere .
If i remember where ill let you know:eek:

the throttle potentiometer is the usual suspect....was on mine anyway.

well guys thank you for the reply.

I left it this long to reply as i was testing a possible cure for the problem.

the problem started when hubby started driving the car when i broke my foot. i found a thread from 2005....noted the cause and mine was the same. my husband was putting the ignition key in and turning it straight away!! now he waites until the diagnositcs go out and then starts the engine. For 3 weeks there has been no revving. I have posted a new thread and hopefully this canhelp someone in the future, after all not everyone has the time to sit for 3 hours and find a thread from 2005!!
