I noticed today one of my bottom front lights is dim, when you switch it to the second setting it doesn't change.
Is changing it as horrendous as it looks? It will have to be my job, husband not back from work until late. Don't want to wait until the weekend.

(edited because I suddenly realised I didn't try to put full beam on while the switch thing was on dipped beam...duh...been a long day)

Switching to full beam doesn't affect the lower lamps at all. It only switches the top lights on in addition to the lower lamps.

Probably the lower headlamp bulb has blown, leaving you with the sidelight.

Changing the front lightbulb is pretty straightforward - just pull away the rubber boot from the rear of the headlamp unit and remove the connector from the back of the bulb. Then you need to unclip the fastening springs that hold the bulb in the place and replace with the new bulb. Hope this helps.

Don't Touch the glass of the bulb - The dust from your fingers will leave a greasy mark and whatever else you've got on your hand, this will then heat up when the bulb gets hot, and act as an etching agent, this will cause an uneven surface on the bulb, and cause it to wear out much quicker than it would have - its life could be as short as 6 months :)

It is an easy job though - the back ones are the horrid ones.

Just done two bulbs on the back o/s so I know where you are coming from - ended up triming out a bit of the boot card to gain access ( can't be seen when the cover is back in place). Whoever designed the boot card was a complete sadist as they must have known that the access hole was a) too small or b) in the wrong place.

It's actually easier to removed the card but that means taking off the boot latch trim panel, the door step panel, removing the parcel shelf holder and the prising out the door pillar plastic trim.

As for the front bulbs I have been using pound shop ones! Lasted over 12 months which is good enough for me for 50p each!

Ah brilliant thank you! I remember my husband changing the back one and taking ages. Glad to hear the front one isn't as bad. Now to search and work out which type I need to buy!

All fixed now, my kindly garage mechanic's trainee did it for me for free!
