Headlights wont switch off

I have an 07 plate Fiat Punto 1.9 multijet. When i start the car up i have a warning messege saying 'Check Running Lights' - its well annoying. A little yellow warning triangle is displayed along with the green headlight symbol. Long story short, my headlights wont turn off, the combi-switch works for the indicators and high beems but not the headlights so they are constantly switched on while driving, luckily when i turn off the car they also turn off so its not draining my battery.

Any ideas?

Could be the relay not releasing, common fault with lights staying on. Locate it and swap it for another relay of EXACTLY THE SAME TYPE AND AMPERAGE. Don't swap it with a crucial relay just another light one. See if that works first as its a free and quick test.
