You don't need to touch the 'nuts', which are in fact screws. The head of the screws should sit in the holes FROM THE FRONT and NOT THROUGH the holes. To take a headlamp out all you have to do is pull the electrical plug off and then unclip the spring. The headlamp is located into the body with a 'tang' on the head lamp that fits into a slot in the rim of the headlamp aperture. It is the screws being held against the holes by the spring that hold the lamps ecure and allow adjustment.
