Hi Guys,

I would really need an opinion.
I am an owner of Fiat 1.4 12V and I have a problem.
I was driving and suddently my steering wheel got hard and two indicators lit up.Indicators for: Battery and indicator fot oil pressure.

I have to look up what it is.
Is it auxiliary tensioner, alternator or is it servo pump directly. I also think that i have a lack of power and when i put my foot of the accelerator car jumps a little and loose power to fast i think.
I have a feeling that it is one of these things which are connected to the auxiliary belt

Can somebody please give me their opinion or expirience

I would be very grateful

Battery and oil pressure light on would suggest that the engine has stopped.

Yours is a petrol engine so no servo pump, it draws its vacuum from the inlet manifold.

With your engine stopped the power assistance from the engine to the steering would not be there, hence heavy steering.

Did this happen as you coasted out of gear or foot on clutch?

hi

thanks for the reply.but the engine was running normaly.i was beggining to turn and the steering wheel got heavy,i dont remember exactly if i had clutch pressed or not.But the engine was running because i had to turn the engine off when i stopped. when i started the engine again it ran normaly.
My servo pump (power steering pump) is leaking a lot.

I have servo pump for the steering wheel it is on the auxiliary belt.On my auxiliary belt is tensioner, alternator, main shaft and power steering pump (servo pump).

Vacuum drawn from the inlet manifold is help for servo drum which is used for braking.

thx for the help if you have any other suggestions i would appreciate.

A leaking power steering pump is not a good idea, that needs resolving.

I suspect that the engine stopped due to a dipped clutch, it will have started as soon as the clutch was released.

The auxiliary belt really has nothing to do with the running of the engine.

When was the car last serviced?

Cheers
