hi all, gonna slam my fiat by 60mm all round on new spring nd shocks. Would it also worth getting a strut brace top and bottom aswell? (y)

As above, you will damage the brace on every bump/speedhump known to man at that drop

If you weren't lowering it I would say forget the top one and just get the lower one but with a 60mm drop you just won't get away with the lower brace unless you are never going to see a speed bump.

The upper brace isn't as effective as the lower brace but it will help.

Keep in mind that with the 60mm drop your handling is going to be degraded anyway and you'll need all the help you can get.

The problem is that the wishbones are past horizontal relative to the ground/chassis when on the flat and that means your geometry moves in the wrong way over every bump. You also lose 70% of your suspension movement in compression so your ability to ride the bumps is down to the spring rate catching the movement and on a small light car the energy is transferred to the chassis even assuming you have the right damping rate for the stiffer springs.

You would get better handling by just fitting stiffer springs and stronger dampers and keeping the original ride height - a drop of upto about 25mm will allow you to keep some semblence of sensible suspension geometry under compression without going for suspension that is too stiff.

Realistically if you want a drop of more than 40mm your best option (handling wise) is to have the lower mounts relocated - and I don't for one moment recommend anyone tries this as it is a precision job that requires more than a little engineering know-how to keep it safe and I don't think you could get enough clearance to the driveshaft even if you did try.

i know what your saying but -60 is a hell of alot better than standard

What I said was dropping the suspension by 60mm doesn't, by itself, make the car handle, infact it is the complete opposite. The improvement in handling comes from the uprated springs and dampers but it would handle better with similarly uprated springs and dampers if it wasn't dropped by 60mm...

no negativity then :D hahaha

im going 60mm because im on 13's and don't want a great big dirty cap in the arches. SO why is it soooo bad to drop it 60mm rather than 40mm?

I thought the lower to the ground the better (y)

maybe, but you will have to keep on top of the maintenence of the whole suspension, as it will wear out a hell of a lot quicker

And you will still have a big gap (maybe not looking at it directly but if you look at the vehicle looking down it) because you have got skinny tyred 13'' wheels on that havent filled the arches
