Generally, only one side snaps, but then, because of the ‘yoke’ that connects them to the lever, the other is useless until the first is replaced. The genuine cables are around £45 each side, or £20 for OEM quality.

If you are a little bit handy you can do it yourself, the replacement. Then it costs less.
