Ok so was in Halfords yesterday and my mate applied for the Halfords Trade Cars, entitles you to UPTO 60% off selected items, tools, consumables, parts etc. NOT Ripspeed stuff.

He spent about £120 and saved £35, and only one of the items wasnt discounted. And that was mainly on the pro range of tools and a few parts.

Anyhow was looking on the web tonight and i see that its not just for 'trade':

"We have also introduced a Halfords trade card into virtually all stores to
encourage more committed home car mechanics and smaller garage proprietors to
purchase an increasing amount of their parts requirements from our stores. Early
results from both initiatives are encouraging."

This means that i'd guess we'd be classed as more committed home car mechanics.

I also see the VxON Vauxhall Owners Club have something worked out.

I havent asked yet about getting one as thought they were JUST for trade, but by the looks of the company statment obviously not.

I would suggest that this would be a great benefit to us. Even if all the FIAT sites have to club there respective weight behind this to get it going.

Dont get me wrong i normally buy my parts from elsewhere, but halfords tools etc are excellent and with the discount the parts etc are as cheap as my local motorfactors, plus with better opening times.

I'm gona post this up on FiatForum as well as feel this is something everyone should know about, if Halfords are ment to be encoraging it.

Also if you already have one then enter YES in the poll. Or can a mod add the option - Already Have One!

Thanks

Yup have posted it a few places, just to generate some interest, i'll prob be in Halfords tomorrow, so will have a chat to the manager and see what the situation is, as my friend needed a wage slip from his work (aircraft mechanic). I know there are certainly some Halfords imps on fiatforum too, but cant access at the mo. As there company policy doc is geared towards offering it to serious home mechanics too, not just trade.

Well they didnt even bother to check his wage slip, and as it says on the companys investor relations package thus being company policy then as a committed home car mechanics i'd hope to be able to get one as thats within the realms of the companys policy as laid out in there report to shareholders. After all i wouldnt buy parts from Halfords unless i got a discount! (well i'd get my mate to buy them) but you know what i mean.

Its a load of crap TBH I can still get parts cheaper than halfords can even with using the trade card

True, if you know where to look or have friends who can point you in the right direction.

Seems a bit of a stunt tbh. There's no way really to distinguish a 'home mechanic' from someone who changes bulbs now and again.

Unless they make you sit a test. And then, if you pass, they hire you

Dont get me wrong i normally get mine from my local motorfactors, as i get 20% off witht them too! :D But at night, and on the wkends they have very limited opening hours something Halfords does not have. After all how many times have you been halfway through and job and went, damm i need that part or this tool. I know i have, even with the begst preperation.

There tools are excellent, made by Britool with lifetime guarentee, all the guys at my friends work buy from there (they service and repair planes) and they need the best kit.

The reason i see Halfords seemingly opening this up to home mechanics is that they are loosing trade to places like Partco, TMS , Europart etc where you used to need to have an account set up to be able to buy parts. But now can walk in off the street and buy and if your trade or know so peeps get an extra 10-20% off too.
