I had to have a coil replaced on my 2011 TA earlier this week. The car suddenly lost power and the check engine light came on. I hooked up my scanner to the OBD port and it said there was a misfire in cylinder 1.
Fortunately I was pretty close to the dealer so I limped back there and he said it was a broken coil (without even looking at the car). Like a lot of TA owners I had the coil replacement campaign done a while back so it wasn't related to that.
Looking back I think the coil might have been going bad for a while. For some time I've had problem where the engine would sometimes stutter a little between gear shifts under hard acceleration. The problem got a bit more pronounced after I installed the Magneti Marelli module a few months back, which I guess makes sense. The problem is now gone after the coil was replaced.
Before some of you go "OMG the MM Module burns coils!" the stuttering was present well before the module was installed. The increased power demand might very well have made the coil fail completely sooner than it otherwise would have. But I highly doubt the module is to blame for the problem.
An annoying way to spend money but the car now runs better than ever so I'm pretty happy
