Gtechniq G1 = Amazing!

Gtechniq G1 = Amazing!

Rain repellent has been around since the early 70's. I've been using the stuff for decades. One of the few products that does exactly what it says on the tin, so to speak.

I had never used it before, and I got this stuff for christmas from a relative and I was very impressed! I shot that video using hard water and it litterally sheets off leaving the screen almost bone dry!
I think the little "kit" cost about £10 and theres easily enough to do another small car, if not 2!

Never used rain-x but Ive heard it doesnt last that long.
This is supposed to last 30k miles or 2 years.
Doubt Ill get 1 1/2 years out of it tbh with the weather being like it is haha

Cheers
Tom

I used rain-x back in the early 70s when it first came out - I thought it was a brilliant idea that would give vital seconds of relative clarity in certain nasty conditions (those times when a hgv speeds by & chucks gallons of water onto your screen as you are doing stupid mph in the opposite direction!). So, despite the expense I bought some but hated it. Yes it beaded the rain so the screen cleared quickly but when you came to put the wipers on, the glass seemed to smear so I ended up scrubbing it all off & never used it since.
I did consider buying some recently just for the wing mirrors, back and side windows but never got around to doing anything about it.

You applied too much RainX if it was smearing, although it's prone to smearing anyway. G1 is the best product I have ever bought and out of the almost £1000 investment into cleaning products it's worth every penny, G3 is awesome too!

Yep, when applied properly rain x works very well. Just to add, it takes a lot to impress me these days, but, although a simple solution still works well.

Gtechniq G1 is the best there is. Rain X is good, I even use it but find it sometime leads to sticky screen and the wiper blades judder occasionally

Ahh, right. So. What you are saying is that when you buy a product costing about a fifth of your weekly wage, it is best not to pour it onto the screen and push it around with a squeegee?
Maybe I should have followed the instructions and used the special screen cleaning solution they included?

You're either on a very low wage or getting ripped off.;)

This was early/mid 70s, I remember the stuff being demonstrated, covering just half a windscreen with rain-x then chucking a bucket of mud at the screen and then water.
It was an impressive demo but, of course, they never used windscreen wipers on that demo, just mud then loads of water.

I think it's safe to say, what works for some doesn't work for others. Not directed at anyone in particular but, when some have made up their minds about certain things, that seems to be the end of, then again I'd rather that, it's the don't knows in life that I wonder about.

I bought one of these kits from the manufacturer website - to confirm, is the G2 to be used to wipe the G1 off as part of the curing process, or is it for remvoing G1 completely (i.e. if you are fed up with it)? The instructions don't make it overly clear. Cheers.

G2 is the residue remover after applying the G1 - leaves it crystal clear on the windscreen.

I know what you mean as I bought the same Kit with the G4 polish in it too, the instructions weren't as good as I had hoped.

Ah OK - so you always use the G2 after the G1, its not for if you mess up or anything. Cools, I got some Halfords Intensive Glass Cutter as prep - only £3.99 with an applicator cloth, seems OK.

Thanks for your help Rawb.

Well initially after reading no instructions I went in all guns blazing, put the G1 on without the G2 after removing the G1 and it smeared my glass with the wipers for a couple of days, I then cleaned the screen and applied the G2 and it worked until I sold the car 7 months later :D

Try and use G4 if you have any? or Autoglym glass polish that smells like bubblegum.

The Halfords intensive glass cutter might be good but it might not bond well with the G1 as I know nanotech is a pain for bonding with other things

Can't wait to get another car and put G1 on! Even considering C1 :p

Seeing as it took a good half an hour to painfully get rid of all the residue on the screen with G2, I dont really fancy using C1. But I suppose you will hardly have to wash your car as all water will just run off. Might have to employ friends lol

Gtech products are still some of the best if not the best products for car protection in the world, application and surface prep is key.

I might not even apply the C1 myself, i'll get a trained proffesional to apply it after i've wet sanded and polished up all to an all round even finish :D
