General Grinding noise

Hello ff , my Marea's developed a 'grinding' noise from the rear as i drive along , its not brakes, im wondering can it be the rear diff as i had this on my Carlton? if so is there a filler point and do i use highpoint 90 oil as in my carlton , any/all replies/advice much appreciated - thanks

A grinding from the back won't be a rear diff. Not in a FWD car.

Could be a wheel bearing though. I've got one on it's way out and it is starting to get a little noisy.

Thanks Venters,is it as simple as that or do they have 1internal+1external bearing per wheel ? also any idea on cost pls mate.

No idea about price, or if there's 1 or 2. Mines going in tomorrow to have it's one looked at. So can update what he says then.

i had a rear wheel bearing done, it was £100 all in

Part was £50 though that was for a front wheel bearing. from what I could see it did have an internal and external separate bearings. Total price all in was £105 although this included a puncture repaire and welding a snapped exhaust.

Cheers Venters, thats sounds quite a good price for that lot ,nice to know about the twin bearing set , where did you get the bearing from pls?

the rear is a single unit, its the bearing & ABS wheel all as one.

its fairly easy to change if you want to do it yourself.

Dunno. Left it in the hands of the garage. I assume they ordered from the Fiat dealer I used to work for.
