Grinding, crunching brakes

Hi can anyone help me please.

Whenever I brake, I can hear this cringeworthy grinding/scraping noise comeing from the front-right wheel of my Brava. It doesn't do it all the time-only as I'm coming to a standstill-maybe 20mph downwards, and it gradually gets louder as I come to a halt. I've taken off the front wheels to look at the brake pads, and the right hand one is slightly more worn than the left, but not badly worn by any means.

Anyone know what it could be?

Age of car? Could be wheel bearing or the caliper not sliding correctly.

funny you should say that i have the same problem ! seems to be worse in winter. mine is an r reg . feels like metal on metal but brake pads are sound !

Change your pads as a precaution

Could be that your pad is split - take them out and have a very very good look!

I changed mine when they started to sound funny - i dont think its that they are worn but it deff sorted the problem!

New pads on old disks will sometimes be fine untill they start to run true! So if its new pads already then i may consider changing disks! And if you change disks you need to change pads again!!

Ah, i have the exact same problem!
I've changed the discs and pads but things r still the same.
I'm guessing its a calliper fault, what else can it be?!?!
Have you checked your brake fluid level as mine needs a wee top up now and again too!

Thing is though, if I leave it as it is, will I be causing further damage to the discs or something? That's what I'm really worried about!

hmm,sure i had new pads and disks fitted when i bought mine nearly two years ago ! doesn't happen all the time so i just ignore it. you'll have to let us know wot it is if you take yours in to be sorted ! too much other stuff needs doing on mine to worry about that, including bloody exhaust which just went tonight !!!
