Hi, there!

Very pleased to have joined this forum - been a long-time lurker but, having recently become a Fiat owner, took the plunge and joined up. Our new daily driver is a late-model 500 1.2 8v...

...but what I'm really after is a classic 70s 500 :)

Coming from a family of car-nuts, I've spent a fair amount of time around British classics - from Midgets to E-Types - so, an old 500 will be a totally new experience for me, and I'm looking to the members of this forum for help and advice on selecting and running my first Italian thoroughbred.

Looking forward to joining in the fun!

Hi JBL;
Welcome to the forum--you will lots of help and advice on the forum. Where are you based? Knowing would help, as then the forum members could point you to the local '500 enthusiast'(y)

That's a good point, Hobbler! ;)

I'm currently based in Germany, on the outskirts of Essen, NRW. This is where I work and therefore spend most of my time.

But, being of English and Italian descent, I have plenty of family to visit in Dorset (south England) and Piacenza (north Italy)... the latter being where I plan to focus my '500 Search' in a month or so.

Shame you're not further south...
I'm heading to Italy in September.. via Frankfurt to drop my trailer off so I can collect my latest 500N on the way back.....
You could have popped along to see what I spend (waste?) my money on..

I've brought a fair few spares of some great German guys... they really enjoy their 500s...

That IS a shame...

...but, if you fancy a detour on the way home, my missus runs a lovely Italian restaurant here in Essen - you're more than welcome to stop in for a bite to eat, provided you show off your most recent purchase! ;)

I've noticed there's some serious Germanic love for the 500, but I'm still learning the language and it's impossible for me to get into a meaningful conversation with the locals - so, how do you cross the language barrier when bartering for spares?
