Sorry to rub it in. 24- T-Jet £370 a year fully comp.

Massive amount of difference between a 24 year old and a 17 year old! My insurance since I was 17 (now 19) has gone downfrom £650 to £450 (just over 44%)

EDIT: Just re-read your post, thought you were trying to say insurance won't be too much for a Tjet, although you could have been just saying how cheap your insurance is compared with his.

I paid £9800 for a brand new T-Jet in Black, sub and tints. None are going at book price at the moment either, good time to buy.

Well aware of that, same applies to 1.4 16v's though.

£7605 vs £8972

£1367 difference, enough to get different alloys and a new exhaust, plus the money he'll save on petrol and insurance.

The Tjet is a great car and I'm after one myself, but there is no way in hell I would susgest one as a first car to a 17 year old.

I wouldn't in all honestly, to be honest I wouldn't suggest buying a brand new car at 17. you will have a knock at some point and it will leave you gutted. Buy a 2nd hand car to begin with trv, you will be able to get used to the roads ect then before progressing onto something faster and newer.

My point exactly! Nothing wrong with a £2k Punto/Clio/Ka/Fiesta/Corsa etc as a first car.

Save your money and get something better in a couple of years time.

I totally agree with peerzy, and I'm 17!!! Trust me, driving like an idiot in any car is dangerous let alone something like a tjet. £3000 for insurance is just silly talk - you could get a car and insruance for that. I know people who's first car was just a few hundred quid. £2000 is a very respectable price for a first car. Then move on to whatever you like later - you will appreciate it more, have more experience and have cheaper insurance!

Seriously mate don't go mad with the spending... I got me a brand new 1.4 sporting when I was 17 and I don't regret it as I love it but it wasn't the most sensible decision I have ever made if I am honest

I paid for it all myself and it took up all my savings, remember its not just buying the thing its running it. Petrol, insurance, tax, servicing it seriously adds up especially as all your mates will nominate you as the driver - guess you can't blame them for wanting to travel in style hehe

Insurance is a killer as you know, Im now 20 and am paying £600 with one years no claims (I was naughty for a few years with my mum as the main driver) are you seriously happy paying £3000?? That is a LOT of money

Guess what I'm trying to say is think of the future a little more before you go for it, shortly after I got the car I got a job moved into my own place and although I manage I can't help thinking If I had just spent a few K on a corsa or whatever I would be able to have a little more fun now as I wouldn't have to think about bills etc so much as I would still have savings.... It is a great car though thats for sure :slayer:

Mr mrmud a most sensible post(y)

Disagree about the corsa though:yuck:

Im 17
wrote my first car off exactly 2 weeks after i passed
Luckily it was only a £470 car and no one was injured

I now drive a 1.2 GP

Get yourself a cheap car to start with mate
i took my old one into a fence post not long after i pass
then into another car shortly after that.

Its going to take a while to get used to driving on your own so may as well do it in a cheap car that wont matter too much if you bump it.

Seriously dont get a Tjet as your first car. They are quick things and as a n00b driver it will catch you out at the speed it can get places. You are looking at over 2k to insure most 1.2s at 17 never mind a Tjet, i wouldnt be suprised if most places refused to cover you on it. Id get a sporting 1.4NA that is a year or 2 old and start in that. That will be plenty fast enough for a first car and insurance would still be sensible.

Well explained Toon and Matt. My sister sorted me out with her old 1.4 8v GP as my first car and am very grateful and lucky to have one. However, sometimes I really do wonder what she was thinking. I am very careful with it but it would be so much more comforting to have a cheaper car to get used to driving in, and not be worried about every tiny thing that could happen to it. Anybody would love the power of the Tjet, so would I but I know I wouldn't be able to handle one. NA 1.4's are plenty quick for a first car. Since I passed my driving test nearly 3 months ago I have coverd almost 4000 miles - for the past month I have been doing 450-500 miles a week and do feel a lot more experienced but I am still a new driver and with my sensible hat on the 1.4 16v is the most I would let myself have.

Lol at this thread. If you can drive (which any male driver says they can) get a TJet if you deep down think its a bit too much for you then get the 16v, still a sick car imo.

But in all honestly drive carefully with both cars, and dont be one of those people who everyone calls "d1cks". Its not hard to drive carefully at all.

Hi im 18 and are just about to go and buy a 1.4 sporting. I had a corsa 1.2 sxi and with more than the insurance was 1200 for a year fully comp because i did my pass plus, i have about 6 months left on my insurance and called them to ask how much it would be to change to this car and it was 120 so i assume around 250 more for this than the corsa.

Congrats for passing your test at 17 thought, i passed mine 2 days after my 18th bday lol.

So id try more than once you have done your pass plus, i dont think they year younger should make too much difference.

Chavtastic!

My first car was a 1.6 Citreon C2 VTR Ministry of Sound LE, Cost me 8k, 900 notes for insurance, and about 40 notes for 6 months tax!... Really Stupid!... I didnt have a great job, struggling to keep it... so I kept dosh aside to pay it off... eventually I did. So I decided I wanted either a small engined petrol, or a diesel, but I know I could get a larger diesel engine for probably the same price as a petrol!... So I saw the GPS in orange and I fell in love with it.... bought it straight off for £10,000 at 4 months old thanks to getting a hell of a better job! £321 a year Insurance and £144 PY for tax.... so chuffed I got it (y):slayer:

Hi im just looking between the 1.4 petrol and 1.9 diesel. could you guys tell me your mpg figures for whichever one you have. I think ill go for the 1.4 as its about 1k cheaper and slightly faster and quieter.

Thanks alot.

1.4 n/a 16v is no way as quick as the 1.9mjet mate! Its more comparable to compare the tjet/mjet see the figures below:

1.4 petrol - 0-60 - 11secs
1.9 diesel - 0-60 - 9.2secs
1.4 tjet - 0-60 - 8.6secs

personally when ive had my GPS mjet timed my 0-60 was between 8.5/8.7! That .5 second makes all the difference :p lol (y)

i think the 1.4 GPS is quite heavy so is more than likely no quicker than your corsa sxi am affraid

1.4 16v GPS is around 10 seconds 0-60 timed and 11 seconds official as you say, but the corsa sxi is 0-60 in 13 seconds so quite a bit slower imo.

At 17 i had a 1.4 16v sporting for my frist car, and it makes an awesome first car, i couldnt think of anything better really, not too quick, low insurance group, safe....thats why id go for the na 1.4 over the tjet

3k on insurance is just stupid though....i was paying £1000 a year on fully comp as a named driver for mine. I dont see how you can ever justify 3k a year? a 120bhp turbo isnt a first car, and thats why they want 3k a year to insure you.

Thanks for all your replies!

Im gonna see what the insurance quotes come back like...then see where to go from there (y)
