good or bad laptop

used to be I would never consider an acer, but had one in the business for over a year now, its on all day, gets abuse, and tis fine.

also would reccomend dell, but they've let me down twice on delivery (missed deadlines, lies, deciept, false hope of anything turning up etc). so would steer clear until they sort emselves out if you want it in a hurry.

hp compaq business laptops (what I'm on now) are also solid, not much to look at, but nuclear tough

to surf the web and look at photos

a porn machine then? :p

lol anyways yeh, its more than capable. We have an acer (not half as good as that spec like) and the only issue we have is the battery aint right clever (never has been) but since it never leaves the livingroom and is always run off mains anyway, it doesn't bother us.

1 gig of ram just to run Vista but then you put other programmes on and it will start to slow down,On the acer front i have one Acer and one Sony Vio and much prefer the acer one

What can I say - 1 Gb RAM is too little for Vista, at least 2 Gb if you want to be able to have a few small programs open, 80Gb HDD is also relatively small, would go for at least 120 in the start. Other is fine, just Acers have a bit dodgy build quality - if you want something that will last years - get HP or IBM (now Lenovo). Been a comp tech for 8 years, getting a bit boring nowadays... :D

I've got an Acer Ferrari and I purchased my son an Acer Aspire, they are well built, reliable, fast machines, faultless.

However, if they do go wrong I believe the UK support is very bad as Acer do not really operate in the UK they outsource their spares and repairs to a company called Esplex in Southampton, I've read only bad things about these people, the don't honour warranties, charge the Earth and take ages to collect, repair and return, so unless you can repair the machine yourself, you'd better think carefully about our purchase.

Cheers!
