I am help my brother's Punto 1.9JTD Eleganza 2003. His glow plugs were new that I have fit couple months ago had few problem to solve P0380 till now it works but last week his glow plugs flash on dash yellow coil for few 5 minutes than gone after he start the engine in cold. I have checking the relay with my multimeter to measure the Ohms all the pin shows under 1.10 but the two pin shows read high 3.51 so is this mean the relay is fault or is good?
I want to make sure before I start the next big job check the glow plug Ohms
also no error codes
:slayer:

My brother's car was give to me again so I can try to fix because the light driving him crazy in night time driving since start development fault error code P0380 = Glow Plug/Heater Circuit "A" Malfunction last year. The yellow coil light flash about 10 minute then it go away.
The relay was check OK with click sound, glow plugs check ohms on each 1.1, 1.2 ,1.2 and 1.1 seem OK mean is function and it only 7 months old, loom between relay and glow plug was remove check for wear or damage was OK.
Still have flash light but it start up lovely no struggle or noise. What the hell wrong with that stupid electric is very frustrating :bang:. Is possible the car technical with laptop to delete data of glow plug warning like other delete EGR valve and DPF?

A Relay click = Not a suitable way to check a relay is working

Sure it may click - but if there was a thick layer of carbon between the contacts inside it may stop current flow

Re-energise the low current (magnetic coil side) again with 12v
And do an Ohms (continuity / beeper) to check the resistance is very low on the high current side, and that its going open circuit after the low side is de-energised

Ziggy

I got up 7am this morning, take out relay and test the current resistance, it flow OK and it works so it can't be the relay, I took glow plugs out again and test see all glow orange is work same time heated up. Still flash light,
so I though try to call my best mate who have high qualification electrical on motor vehicle and I pay him £20 to find out what is wrong.
I am surprise he could not find anything wrong with this car!
he said is mystery because all pre-heated system is in good condition and work fine start up in cold & running nice smooth.

He said there is only two option for free is remove coil led on speedometer or try to call http://www.celtictuning.co.uk/ may cost over hundred pounds to access ECU switch off or delete data.

There is nothing more I can do, one more question if all glow plugs made in different company do this effect different resistance performance to confuse the ECU?
plugs that I have put in is Bosch it said to glow up fast than other cheap glow plugs not sure if effect it?

Is that possible something do with battery? the battery is small low amps they do sell more amps big battery would this help?

I see lot of other car with same engine same problem on SAAB, Vauxhall and Alfa said common problem on early Fiat 1.9 8v

Is the battery losing charge if left for along time? so if yes replace glow plug relay,(sometimes they stay on with ignition off) flashing glow plug seems to mean anything but faulty glowplug so wire or relay.:slayer:

I am give myself other a chance try look everything again, now I am start to hate future electrical car :yuck:, my other old Peugeot 306 1.9TD done 309,000 miles on a same glow plugs! why can't the new car can?

Replace other new glow plugs reading Ohms was 0.6 on all to compare other plugs reading was 1.2 that is OK

Remove the relay cover test each pin with click switch all reading 0.5 that is OK

Loom took off again test all 4 pin shows 0.1 that is OK

scrap off metal connect ring with wire brush & relay pins scrap with slot screw drive

check fuse main 60amps blue is OK & scrap with slot screw drive on fuse pins

switch key to wait glow plugs go off then start, light seem not coming , try again still nothing.

I think it was dirty connect what I did scrap it off so it OK
I am having a peace now! (y)
