Well title says it all really, the current system is a PITA if you just want to add a thread without adding it to the calender. Can this be modified to allow the addition of plain threads along with the automatic calender ones?

make it in ll, then ask a mod to move it 
Why would you add an event without it going on the calendar? The whole idea is all the events and caledars entries are tagged together.
Or you mean for threads discussing possible plans for events? Maybe a new subforum..?
If we removed the auto calendar entry, i'm pretty sure no one would ever put their event in it (like it was before).
