Getting new 17" wheels - advice on these lowering kits?

Hi guys,

Here's my GP - just because ;) It's a 2006 1.2 8V.

Anyway, I will be picking up some nice 205/45/R17 wheels and tyres in the New Year and I am going to do the opposite and get the adjustable springs and coilovers on the car first. My question is, what are peoples opinions on the below kits. I don't have a huge amount of money to spend and I just want to lower the car to make sure it doesn't look ridiculous with the new wheels. I do want good ride quality and I expect passengers every now and again (since it's a 5-door).

This kit looks good to mean, German engineering but I'm not sure what the mean by ideal for beginners - it's not like I'm fitting it myself.

This kit is explained quite well and as I said, ride quality is a big deal for me, I find the current setup quite hard.

Again, this is explained well but that's why I need your opinions guys.

Thanks! :)

Morning mate, depends on how much you want to spend tbh but I would go for Eibach's for lowering springs or Weitecs for coilovers.

Are you ok to buy separate makers as you've described? Will they still work together? My budget is about €200-300 (so up to £200). Cheers dude!

Re: Getting new 17" wheels - advice on these lowering kits?

I think you'll find ANY of these cheep (height adjustable only) kits will be harder/harsher than the "stock" because when lowering the damping and spring rates have to increase (get harder/quicker) to prevent the travel of the shock running out and hitting the bump-stops or the chassis of the car itself.

If you really want to maintain some quality/comfort like the stock set-up (though you even say that is hard - are you sure there isn't some aftermarket suspension on it at the moment?!) then I'm afraid you will need to be thinking at least triple that price for something with adjustable rebound/damping, such as these http://www.lkperformance.co.uk/coil...ilverline-x-coilover-kits/283424?carId=217751

To be honest, it's probably mostly me not being used to it yet and coming from a Passat so not to worry - it's "grande" most of time :)

Ok well that is too much for me unfortunately so I guess I've no real issue with reducing the comfort - I will gladly exchange some of that for a bit of better handling and a lower center of gravity.

I'm looking to get the whole kit that is adjustable - what do you make of the first kit I posted here?

Perhaps this would be more suited? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Fiat-Grande-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53ee96dea7

PS: If I just want a recommended 40-50mm drop after the new wheels go on, would I be better off getting high quality Eibach springs like these? http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Fiat-Grande-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3379db3706

No mate I meant to say if you are will to spend 500 - 650 then you would be looking at coilovers and I would go for Weitecs. If you only wish to spend around the 200 mark then I would go for the Eibach Sportlines. Everyone who has lowered their GP on here by springs has gone for the Eibach's so you could buy those with confidence.

Deadly, you's lot are class :)

Eibachs FTW :slayer: I'm running them, with low profile tyres too (mistake)

If you aren't going to budge on your budget, then go with springs IMO. Coilovers are ace, but i wouldn't go near them unless i'm spending upward of £500 on them for sure. Simply for quality of the goods i'm using, and for ride quality. I wouldn't go near the cheaper 'budget' kits out here with a 10ft barge pole. Mainly on principle that if i'm buying coilovers i want quality coilies, not cheap ones that i don't know are able to cope with speed bumps/pothole obliteration.

Nice clean lookin' GP. What plans have you got aside from lowering and alloys?

Sweet I appreciate the advice :)

Lots of little bits at the moment, I've just purchased a boat load of stuff for it so I might have to do up a thread for it :)
