Hi all, i’m new in the forum but following your discussions in the last few months.

I’ve recently acquired a classic Fiat 500N 1957 model with 110F engine and I’m still in the process to renew some of the mechanical parts and faced a problem few days ago. Your experience/feedback/suggestions are very much appreciated.

So far I’ve:
-replaced the battery
-replaced the carburetor and fuel pump with new
-replaced the starter motor with new

The car was driving perfectly until couple of weeks ago that starter losing power/torgue and couldn’t get to a speed. After several tries the car start accelerating and driving normally. I though that could be caused by dirt and rust that was accumulated in the old fuel tank. The new fuel filter that was installed a month ago had also rust and debris so i decided to replace the entire fuel tank and fuel gauge. The work completed a week ago, i also put some air in the fuel line between tank and fuel pump to clear any dirt and allow full flow.

After completing all of the above, I tried to start the car but problem still exists. The car starts but can’t get into speed. After some pressure on the pedal it starts moving but with very very low speed, no torgue at all, the generator lights now stays on with exception of few seconds that may dissapear before lights on again. There is also some vibration on the engine. Not sure if is something with the dynamo/regulator or something else.

Any troubleshooting feedback is greatly appreciated.

Have a good day

Check that both plug leads are secure and in good condition.

Also check they are connected to the correct cylinder and also check that the points haven’t closed up and the condenser as well. If this is all in good order then check the timing.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your input. So today I’ve:
- replaced plug leads and distributor cap,
- check codense and contact points and although they were in new condition since replaced about a month ago I replaced them with a new set
- changed some of the wiring connectors with new

Tried to switch on the car and no response. Engine is turning, generator and oil lights are on, battery is full but no luck. the coil is also new, measure it and is fine. i had a similar issue a couple of months ago, ended up with a new starter, carburetor and fuel pump. Of course the initial engine problem and this one may not be connected so now I’m trying to figure out the ignition issue in order to check if the engine problem solved. Anyone faced similar issues?
