Hey guys & gals,

What is the general consensus on ecu resets?
Disconnect for 45mins, plug back in and then what..

Wait 5 mins with engine running and then drive normally?
Boot it from reset to get more power?
take it steady for the first 100miles to get max fuel economy?

I want good fuel economy & power when needed.

Thanks

Darren

well if you boot it straight away it would expect you to drive like that all the time, so would not run good when driving normal.

start it up and dont touch accelerator for 5 mins

Thats the general consensus, however take into account your mods if any, for example if you have a full exhaust system, sports air filter the ecu reset is still fine to do but when you restart the engine will automatically start sucking in more air and the will try to compensate buy adding more fuel, for max economy you need to return the car to standard, i got 300 mile out of half a tank in the 1.8 hlx got the pics to prove it on a trip from Preston to Dover which is 318mls exactly.

Great :)

after the 5mins leaving do I then take it easy for 100 miles or so? or does it not matter?

Mine is a standard 2.4jtd but I've just put a new MAF on her and she pulls like a train but obviously the last ecu reset was with a faulty MAF.

Everyone on here would say that for the first few hundred mile the ecu will learn your style of driving so if you gun it it will expect to be drivin that way if you drive it like a god botherer then it be easier on the fuel consumption.. it's however heavy your right foot is to be honest mines like a lead boot lol.
