General gears to close together

ive just brought a ducato 2 litre jtd 53 plate and the problem with it is the gears are to close together the bloke i brought it off said that the gearstick in it is an alfa romeo and that it just needs a new ducato one putting in (where he had work done he said they couldnt get the gear stick) i dont even know the proper term for it. its definatly not the right one he said it would cost 100 pounds to fix after the pull off either in first or second or third the van runs very smooth as does the gearbox. has anyone heard of this before and where would i get the neccessary documents for the problem and the proper name for the gearstick also how much would it cost to fix any help please need it fixed asap

Hard to know how much they changed I'd say your best bet is to find one being scrapped on ebay and ask for everything from the knob to the gearbox .
