Technical Gearbox wonderings...

wow, forgot i had started this thread.... So as i now have a panda, 5spd and rods, the pedal felt so much heavier than i expected! I say that in a non-moaning way - have done few hundred miles now and the clutch feels pretty normal to me and i keep slamming the pedals in the other cars down really hard lol. The Ignis pedals now feel like they are connected to jelly haha. Gear change does feel a little sloppy but i suspect the rods could all do with some fresh bushes by now if they never been changed - i know of some nice red poly bushings I can get (my bravo hgt has the exact same bushings on its gear selector rods lol) so may get some of them come warmer weather.

Just read through this, this was when I'd owned Char' for about a year and now you see what I mean when I said a Panda clutch pedal feels like it actually does something, every time I drive something modern the clutch just feels like jelly to me  The gear change is a bit wolly yes, especially coming out of 5th I've always noticed but never really cared that much as you don't do many quick gear changes unless you want to scare your passengers with a nice crunch ;)
As for future engine upgrade plans my plan was to stick with the box as its already a 5pd but put the diff from a Panda 1000 box on it which would raise the ratios in all gears a little bit (y)

tbh i find the accelerator pedal stiffness the weirdest - I have owned so many cars and driven even more than I owned that getting used to a clutch is not really an issue after the first couple of times I set off. It is mad how heavy it is though, i mean compared to a cinq which also has nothing to aid you - just a lever at clutch end and pedal at other with a cable inbetween, can't quite workout why the pandas would be so much heavier. I guess the fulcrum point of the lever at gearbox end would make a big difference to perhaps the difference between the 2.
The go pedal seems unnecessarily heavy - i mean i can and already am used to it but just seems strange for a accelerator to be so damned heavy - the spring on the TB on a cinq is pretty strong that pulls the butterfly shut and thats the only thing thats really going to make the pedal so firm unless the cable itself is tight in its sheath - Something to have a look at one day i suppose.
