Hello. ;)

I'm in Essex today, on the way up here I stopped on the M25 just after Clacket Lane services, with.......

yes, a broken gear box [V]
So now, following a tow from the AA, I'm stuck in Essex and need a new gear box in order to get home for work tomorrow. According to the fiat parts CD which I got my Mum at home to have a look at a reconditioned Fiat gearbox costs ca. £460. [:0]

Since the car only cost £750, I'm debating the feasability of this.

Do u guys know of a cheaper way of getting a new gearbox, and fast!!

Help please!

Cinq (but maybe not for much longer ;))

Oh dear, now where have I heard that one before ?

There must be Cinqs in scrapyards by now - accident damaged cars perhaps?

Well, due to the fact that my car's in Romford, I live in Southampton, and I need my car ASAP, and places in Southampton couldn't look at it for two weeks, It's being repaired in Romford at the beginning of next week at a cost of £510 + V.A.T. parts and labour included.:(

Oh well...

You say its gonna cost you 510 + VAT, thats £600 all in personally i would scrap it or hang on and find a box from a scrappy.
They know you need the car asap and have you by the balls with both hands!

You sure the box has gone not the clutch has gone, has the garage taken the cover off to have a look???

A box will cost £100 max 2nd hand then theres a clutch kit, gearbox oil and inner CV joints/boots to buy at another £100 so there charging you £400 for a days work, not bad eh?
I would seriously consider this again.

Too right mate. Driving to work takes me 20 minutes, while taking the bus/train takes me nearly 90.

Bloody public transport. Hate it but have no choice while the Panda is off the road. See the Panda section for an update - but don't rush as I haven't written it yet :)

I use my car for work everyday. But the other week when it went into the bodyshop I had to use my pedal bike. Got her 10mins earlier!!!

God damn it... went to work today - a 20 minute drive = £5.10 on the train!!!! No bloody wonder nobody uses the train! £5.10 for a single! I didn't have enough money! I had to get a child ticket, then pretend I was french when the ticket inspector came round n he let me off because he gave up trying to communicate ;)

I'd try it cuz im 18 but the fact that wen i shave I still look a tramp and I could'nt get on a bus for half fare even when I was 15 rules me out. lol

my baby's back now - new clutch, new 'box and new "gaiter" - apparently the cause of the problem - the hole that feeds oil to the 'box had broken - all the oil had ran out and it seized? you might know what that means pete - i just took his word for it - at least i don't have to take out another loan (from my 'rents ;)) to pay for pubic (not a typo) transport :p:D
