Hey guys

I'm driving a Fiat siena 1.2 El 2002/ 2003. I have a problem with my gearbox, im wondering if anyone could have knowledge of what exactly might be wrong, it's something I have to elaborate

My transmission/ gearbox won't move to far right side when I move the gear to select 5th/ reverse, basically the cable responsible for manipulating the gear selector or whatever only moves far left and center. Meaning I can select all first 4 gears but can't access the 5th and reverse. Aive tried all adjustments. I've removed gear cable responsible for manipulating selector or whatever, left to right and tried moving it with my hands, only far left side responds, I push it left (access to 1st and 2nd gear) and it automatically returns to center (3rd and 4th) but when I push it to the far right, it doesnt push back to center/ respond (basically jst wiggles loos on far right).

So I'm wondering of anyone has had such a problem before, and is it something I can fix my self, or even possibley if I can fix my self, I'm a self thought mechanic, can overall a engine and such, jst never opened a gearbox, thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome

I understand you've tried disconnecting the cables from the gearbox, and moving the selectors on the gearbox by hand?

Which rules out the cables.

I would be looking at the selector mechanism on top of the gearbox next.

There's a roll pin (number 2) on the shaft which is known to snap, and can result in symptoms like this.

Goodday
Im actually laughing inside a bit
I was sure about the problem being somewhat the selector or jst around the, but those around kept telling me about adjustments and such.

I read both threads, from what I read, look like locating said roll pin is a straight forward job, jst want to make sure, can I carfullyperform this repair without dropping the gearbox and if so, how long do you think it takes, im not a novice, quite a gear head actually.

If so, then I will be starting in the early hours of this weekend to check and possibly purchase and install said roll pin if finding it in my neighborhood isn't a problem, will update weekend, thanks for the time and effort✨🌹

I should have said, this applies to FIRE engine European Punto & Panda, you might want to confirm Siena has the same gearbox first.

No need to drop the gearbox, selector should be on top. You might need to remove some things (battery?) to reach it. Fingers crossed it helps your problem🤝
Sorry for the paragraphs but I feel like elaborating is best

I can tell externally the gearbox looks the same, by my judgment,, the way everything is siting an is placed, they should be the same, any way I'll jst adapt If not.

So I'm searching online for the part mentioned nearby in my country and every website is over seas an must ship, im in south africa . I'm not familiar with gearbox parts, but im checking then I run across a part listed as a sellock pin but looks exactly the same and then I searched it and tagged my country, found the so called sellock pin at a VERY nearby but nationwide hardware only difference is the length being 30mm (4x30mm) and the tool to remove it. So now I jst need confirmation that this is the same part, and if so👀 what would happen if measured, grind and smoothen out the edges, would it

Sorry posted before finishing

.....what would happen if measured, grind and smoothen out the edges, would it be a sufficient enough modification or not, does is need to be galvanized or not.
I need reassurance because a pack of ten of these roll pins/ sellock pin costs R27,90😭😭 (€1.5), and the tool is R54.90 (€2.70).

Could it actually be?! A gearbox fix for less than R90?

I don't know, sorry, I've never done one. It's just if the cables have been eliminated as a cause it's where I would check next.

You won't know if the roll pin is the problem until you open up the selector. You'll need some sealant to put the cover back.
Retainer spring pin is 4 mm diameter, 22 mm length (you can put a bit longer one, like 24-25 mm, 30 will be too much). Yes, it goes trough during disassembly. It must be spring/roll pin, do not substitute with regular, straight solid one or bolt etc.
I would ask @GrandePunto PL for advice on that other thread, more chance people with experience will join in
