Hi there

I posted on the forum a few months ago about problems with gearbox on my 1998 Sei SX (900). I took the car to the local garage and they advised I needed a new gearbox. Somebody on here very kindly offered me one, but the garage found one the same day so I turned it down, safe in the knowledge that my car was about to be fixed. Unfortunately, it turned out the gearbox the garage got didn't fit my car. The garage contacted the breakers and seems all the Sei gearboxes they have are the same as the one they sent, ie they don't fit my car. Ok, so I just have to wait until they get one that does fit. Well, nearly 4 months later I am still waiting!

The garage say they are checking in with the local breakers all the time but no-one has a gearbox the same as mine. The also say that they have had several Seis in over the last few months but none have a gearbox like mine. He says they are definitely 900s not 1100s or Sportings but still they're different. They are only willing to use local breakers as they reckon it'll be too difficult getting their money back if they get one and it turns out not to fit again. They have suggested that I could try and source one myself, if I want to risk my own money!

Does anyone have any ideas why my gearbox would apparently be different from every other Seicento?! I thought the the gearbox was the same on all 900 Seis and Cinqs. If I am looking for a gearbox myself how can I tell whether or not it will fit my car? Someone is breaking a 900cc Cinq on Ebay near me. Do you think the gearbox from this should fit? Would you even buy a gearbox off Ebay?!

Thanks in advance for any help

Thanks for the quick reply. Different linkages apparently.

The garage is John Goodlad in Newhaven/Trinity area.

I can't se why there would be different linkages. If you are online when its a bit quieter, pop into the ePER at the top of the page and see whether your car has a different linkage, although I doubt it.

I used to work at that end of Edinburgh, or Leith, as some would prefer, but I think all the folk I worked with are long gone.

PM Custard, see if he has any contacts.

Cheers
