Does anyone out there know what the ratios are in the 6 speed gearbox?

It might seem like a strange question but I was wondering if 6th is no more than an "extra" overdrive.

I don't know the exact ratio's but in comarison to the fabia vRS 6 speed box, the sixth in the punto seems more like a 5th with the rest split into an extra ration... it's happy enough at 50 mph in 6th, but the skoda wasn't happy unless you were doing at least 70 mph in 6th, that seemed more like an overdrive, no acceleration in 6th until 110 ish (private road of course, my friends airfield) whereas the fiat seems to pull much better at motorway speeds in 6th, but not as good economy at 70 mph as the skoda.....

prolly no help ;)

That's how it feels to me. I can happily pull 6th above say 40 mph though I'm not pushing it much through the gears as yet. Only got 450miles on the clock.

For those that care the 6 speed ratios are,

1st 3.818:1
2nd 2.053:1
3rd 1.302:1
4th 0.959:1
5th 0.744:1
6th 0.614:1
Reverse 3.545:1

Excuse me while I go to take my anorak off :(

I tried to put a link in to the site I found them on but it wouldn't work :bang:

cool, I'll join you with the anorak stuff:these are the vRS ratios for 6th

pre '05: 0.756
post '05:0.814

if I read the figures right, that means the GP has a longer 6th gear ?! however in an pre 06 vRS 2000 revs in 6th was pulling 78 mph!? (and 65 mph in a post 05 car) hhmmm confusing... going to test what 2000 revs in the GP does today, and will post back! lol..

You have to use the final ratio combined with the gear ratios to find the specific speed at 1000 rpm (or any other rpm).
So your old Fabia had a different final ratio when compared to the Grande Punto.

ah, of course... the final drive ratio..... doh!

edit: got the final drive of the vRS too... for what its worth! didn't have oppertunity today to see what the GP would do at 2000 revs in 6th...

6th: 0.814, final drive 2.615

right, thats it, my anorak days are over!

I don't know what size tyres you had on your Fabia, all I could find on the net was a standard fit of 205/45-16 with those wheels the Fabia has a speed of 52,299 km/h @ 1000rpm in 6th gear.

If I coulf find the final drive ratio for the Grande Punto, I could calculate the speed for that as well.

It's 3.65 for the 130 BHP model.

your tyre sizes are correct so go for your calculations!

Cool stuff...so the 130 diesel would be doing just under 2000RPM @ 100km/h/62mph. That should be pretty cruisy on the motorway, especially since that is around the peak torque :)
