Anyone know how i would check my gearbox oil on my uno 70sl?

Synchro seems gone from second to third, wondering if this was oil level as i heard it could be.

I don't think you can check as such can you? When I did it with my Grandpa we slightly jacked up the front/put it on ramps and undid the gearbox filler nut (on the front of the gearbox on my uno 45). Once undone, we filled until at that angle, if we poured anymore in, it would come out.

Probably doesn't help :(

Paul. You're almost right. To check oil level in the gear box, have the car stand as horizontal as possible. Open filler nut. If oil drips out it's full. If not, fill until it comes out. Then it's full. To renew completely do as above, but empty it first, with the screw on the bottom of the gearbox. You can't check the condition of the oil, but it should be renewed after 100.000 km or so. Better to do often than rarely.

Thanks morton,
I'll try that.
I don't have a manual, wondering if you knew roughly how much oil it took.
To save oil overfilling my container, or not buying enough etc.
Would you recommend a type?
thanks for your help.

The gearbox contains appx 2,5 litres of oil. Turbo about 3 litres. Some has only 2 litres, but being a 70 I'd guess around 2,5 litres. Containers are usually sold in 4-5 litres in Norway. We bought a 20-litre to save some money and fill up both the Uno and the Ritmo Abarth. Anyway, don't use engine oil, it'll be too thin. Buy gearbox oil with viscosity GL/4 then you'll be safe. I don't know the climate on New Zealand, but the environment in "The Lord of the Rings" looks like it's shot in the Norwegian wilderness. GL/4 works perfect on the Uno and Ritmo's gearbox. The struggle from 3rd to 2nd is gone on the Uno, and the shift from 2nd to 3rd on the Ritmo is smoother now.

I'd recommends a full synth stuff, as the Tutela ZC 75w80 (Api Gl5)oil...but every lubricant with the same specs is suitable!Another tip:drain the old lubricants only after having your engine at the operating temperature, as they are thinner when hot and flow more easily through the holes;)
