So oil change yesterday…. And I decided to change the gearbox oil too as it’s been a while
While I was under there my heart sank … I see signs of a weep .. collecting in the lip of the flywheel inspection cover right at the bottom
Gave it a good wipe was very dirty but didn’t smell like oil … stupidly I didn’t investigate further so I’m getting under the car again tomorrow…
I’ve since shone a torch in that area I can definitely see signs of glistening liquid

Do we think crankshaft oil seal!? If it turns out to be a weep of gearbox liquid it will be a recon gearbox new seal a new clutch and more new oil!
Am I missing anything? I need to gather my parts and don’t want to forget anything else!!!

More likely that the sump is leaking under the crankshaft. Them sumps be a rust buckets heaven.

If there is oil on the flywheel its probable that the clutch has already been contaminated and will fail in the next few thousand miles.

My guess is sump now, new clutch in 3 months.

I’ll have a good look up there tomorrow 👌

We do think crankshaft oil seal. And as long you're onto it, maybe replace the CV joints seals, too. Also, the bearing inside the gearbox might need to be replaced, but you'll know that for sure after you open up the gearbox.

I’ll be getting a recon gearbox! This is going to be done properly I do not want issues later down the line 👌

Just where the exhaust bracket is?
Ours has a leak there ish been like that several years I too suspect the sump to engine seal as it clearly leaks a little had it been the crank seal I'd have expected clutch problems by now?
Yeah you know the inspection cover that covers the flywheel…. The lip comes under the bell housing … I can see liquid.. but a weep definitely not a leak …. Yet

More likely to be gearbox input shaft bearing?
I’ve no idea but no clutch issues at all no noise … either way I am expecting gearbox out but will know more tomorrow!

It all stems from the new clutch in 2020 I asked the garage if I could supply a recon box they said it would be refurbished to the same standard 😂 of course I know nothing back then
I ended up replacing 2 seals myself 2 months after … so I’m actually surprised the gearbox has lasted this long knowing all that was changed was the clutch!

That's the bearing I was referring to in my post above. Also, the gearbox has a seal there, that can be replaced only by unscrewing open the gearbox housing, as the seal must be put in from the inside. That's why I've mentioned that bearing.
@Baglady1990, although I've mentioned in my post above the 'crankshaft oil seal', I was actually thinking first that is probably the gearbox seal. You did say it didn't smell like oil, referring probably to engine oil, but is it gearbox oil?
It could also be the crankshaft seal, of course. But if it's any one of them, you'll need to take the gearbox down to replace it, so you coul do them both at once, along with new clutch.
For the gearbox, you cand do it yourself if you have it taken down from the car. That's what I did, working on it for the first time and it was very easy with the help of this post by Mr Wild, in the Punto's section. I think the 500 has the same gearbox as Punto.

Although it’s hard to see .. I did loosen the inspection cover enough to tell its oil … so it’s a gearbox out job … just bought a clutch crank seal and it will be a recon gearbox… going to replace the lower mount too … Pah going to be skint 😑

It does look to be oil. You have to identify if it's engine or gearbox. For the engine oil leakage you have to start the inspection from the upper parts of the engine, the Cylinder Head, going downwards. Because the oil is dripping and even if you identified that spot in the pictures, the source could be on top of the engine, starting with CH cover.

I can see signs of fresh engine oil from under the throttle body but it does not appear to be on the top of the bellhousing ….. will have to investigate further tomorrow…… the ch cover looks fine from what I can see!
It could be I have 2 leaks 😂 either way my clutch is contaminated……

It looks like I have a leak from the rocker the gasket has obviously failed! On the right hand side too! The plot thickens!

probably be best to change the rocker box gasket and clean everything you can see or get access to, then run her for a while and see if the problem re-occurs dont want to do a lot of work if not needed eh!.
