Posted a few days ago about an oil leak I have. I thought it may have been from the air intake so I replaced the rubber seal below the air filter on Saturday, cleaned it all off and also cleaned the base of the sump and gearbox with degreaser so all oil free. Looked again yesterday and there seems to be a puddle coming from I think the gearbox half and coming down to the base of the sump. I took some photos to show but it's not the best but you get the idea where the source is from. Is it going to be a garage job preferably one that deals with gearboxes or should I try source a recon gearbox? Can't seem to think where else it would be leaking from other than the gearbox area. Seen a post on google somewhere about it could be 1 of 2 places in the gearbox but thats out my know how.... Any advice is most welcome 😁

Stick your finger in the oil and smell it if it stinks its gearbox oil( often imput shaft seal, not a big deal ) if not its engine, so probably sump seal?
Also, it looks like there's a bolt missing out of the gearbox, which probably held the down pipe bracket. If this is missing, it can break the exhaust manifold bolts?

I did notice that missing bolt yesterday when I took the photo but thought could that be why it leaks but looks abit higher than that but I'm gonna try look to replace that missing bolt. Thanks!

Cool, I'll try that when I get home tonight, least it might narrow it down abit more haha.

Thanks for your help.

Thank you mate, ah I wouldn't even know what to look for in replacing that, maybe ebay or a scrappy would have it.

On the way home I popped into a garage and told them about the leak (although I'm at the garage tomorrow for a check over as its had a rattle/clunk for weeks now).... but they said the leak is gearbox oil and it's probably from the seal but it's a gearbox out job and be around £700 to repair, wonderful!!

Maybe the garage tomorrow will find this gearbox issue too and come up with the same solution. Thinking a repair is probably cheaper than a refurbishment job!

Thanks mate, yeah they mentioned that I just couldn't remember the name, just remembersaying seal Theyd shown me an example of it in the car next to it, thats why it wouldbe knocking/clunking along with the leak. Would any repair come with a clutch? Another future job off the list I suppose!

Thanks!
