Hi everyone.
I seem to have a bad oil leak coming from the gearbox.
It is evident running down from between the gearbox and engine .
Has anybody had the same problem. Is it an oil seal?

Thanks
Ian

Is it gear oil or engine oil?? Get some on your finger and sniff it, if it smells the same as the oil under the engine oil filler cap then it's engine oil, if it smells quite different (gearbox oil has a distinct smell) then it's gearbox oil.

If it is gearbox oil it will most likely be the input shaft seal and if not repaired your box will kill all the bearings.
Box out job im afraid.

Mine lost all of its gearbox oil through the driveshaft seals and the box ate itself; the only mechanical failure I've had in five years and 60,000 miles.

The lesson being - keep an eye on the oil level and top it up. I was complacent and never bothered checking; if I had, for the sake of a litre of oil from time to time, I'd have saved the cost of fitting a replacement box.

How big a job is removing the gearbox and where could i get a manual.
I've seen manuals on cd/dvd format but they only usually run on Windows XP or less, i have W7.

Cheers
Ian
