Punto (Mk2/2b) gearbox leak info needed

Hi all newbie here and I have a punto 1.2 8v 52plate and just wounded to replace just the drive shaft seals do you need gear box off or do you just pop the drive shafts out as I'm sure that the problem I've got both shafts are wet and it's spraying it on to the steering rack and it's dripping on to the flexi part of the front pipe and smelling

if both seals are leaking to this extent i would be worried that the diff has dropped on its bearings due to age /no oil
i believe one of these joints comes with the bolt on section so looks quite dear the other side is straight forward old seal out new one carefully popped in ask at the dealers would probably be best?

do ascertain if gearbox worth doing though before wasting money
i took a diff off one of these last week on the bench and it looked like it could be done in situ only problem being you would have to make sure the right size thrust washer was used to take up any gap on refit so probably not a diy proposition in case we got it wrong and diff seized on the road

thanks i was hoping that someone would have pics or vid of changing them as i cant afford to pay a garaged but then i dont want to be stuck with out a car and hoping just seal will seal it as cant afford a gearbox its got a slight whining soun but nothink that bad
