Gearbox issues

i was wondering if any of you would be able to help me. i have managed to kill the gearbox on my 1996 1.8hlx bravo and am therefore in need of some advice. i will probably sell it soon anyway so i am looking for the cheapest option really. would i be best getting it overhauled at 300 quid + removal and fitting at whatever the going rate or replace it with one from a scrappies for xxx quid. how much would i be looking for for a box from a scrappy?

It depends how long the string is doesnt it!

You could pay £400 for a 1000 mile good nick box - or they may sell u a half worn 1 4 another 10,000 miles 4 £50 - Or worst case they may sell u a half worn 1 for another 10,000 miles for £400. lol

ok, it looks like it may be worth my while looking in scrappies for a cheap s/h gearbox. if anyone else has any views they would be much appreciated.

The synchro went on my 2nd gear aaages ago, not got it fixed yet, but I was told I have four options:

1) New box: around £500-600, time off road 1 day
2) Reconditioned box: around £300-400 giving them my old box in exchange for a reconditioned one, time off road 1 day.
3) Get my box repaired: around £300-400, time off road up to a week.
4) Buy an old cheap box from a scrappies and get that reconditioned, £300-500, time off road 1 day.

They are not Fiat prices and all gearbox internal work would be done by a specialist firm. Not made up my mind yet, but 3) is probably out of the question due to needing my car much more than weekly LOL !

gearbox

my gearbox went on my 1.4 and fiat said £1050 for a new box but i had 2 get a reconditioned box 4 £550...but it had smashed up my clutch and speed sensor so it cost me £1200 in the end

Bloody Fiat Gear Boxes

I unfortunatley have been through 2 gear boxes in the 18 months I have owned my bravo, ask anyone on the forum I am reknowned for it!!!! I have 2 places up here that supply 2nd hand gear boxes, overtons is £345 + vat and sharpewoods is £200 (they dont charge vat) but they might not have the size you want, I can look into it for you if you want and even arrange shipment, sometimes it still works out cheaper than buying down there although I have no idea how much fitting would be as I am a hairdresser and exchange free cuts for labour (my mechanic informs me I am at his dispossal until 2010!!!!)
