Hi all, first post here!

I have a Uno fire 999cc and was driving about tonight when I finally decided to park somewhere offroad for a bit. As I gently rolled my car in what looked like a little safe place, something clicked or hit the bottom and all of a sudden my gear lever went nuts and seemed dislodged. Gears seem to work fine as I managed to drive home but I cannot engage the reverse gear as the lever bumps into my seat and the 1st gear looks like the 3rd and so on.

Is it just something that's gotten loose and eventually came off (meaning I just have to put it in place and drive) or is yet more trouble on the way?

I've already changed the radiator and safe starter to my car... all in under 3 months! Not to mention pay day's coming late this month!:mad::mad:

It sounds like you have a mk1 Uno FIRE (1983-1989)? Reason I say this is that these have a gear lever and linkages that go underneath the car and join up with the bellcrank assembly at the bottom of the gearbox. It is possible that these have been damaged or dislodged causing the symptoms you describe.

These problems are less likely with mk2 models as I think they all use internal gearbox linkages so are less likely to be damaged by objects hitting the underside of the car.

You need to get underneath the car (safely, only do so with proper axle stands/ ramps) to have a look. It will probably be obvious what's happened once you do this.

Good luck and welcome to the forum :)

hi all, just an update:

thanks to my father-in-law-to-be the car is now back on the road buzzing away. The gearbox had been loose ever since i bought the car and now it should be even safer.

Thanks for all the help :)
