Hi everyone,
i bought my ducato from brand new in 2006.
i am a self employed builder so i did some research when i needed a new van and came up with the ducato.
up till 1 month ago i was thinking its not a bad van.
Then it broke down.!!!!!!!!!
I stopped at a junction and when i went to put it in gear to pull away it just crunched and grinded.
Not being mechanically gifted i assumed it must be something to do with the clutch.
I called the AA out (he was a very nice man lol couldnt resist that)
The AA started the van tried some more gear crunching and jumped out of the van and had a look underneath.
To which the AA man exclaimed "there is something seriously wrong here mate"
No **** sherlock i thought as the road i had stopped on became a flowing river of gearbox oil !!!!!!!!
Took it to a local garage and after 2 days of diagnosis presented me with a quotation of £1800 plus vat minimum. Could go up another £1000 depending on man hours.
So i began to look for a replacement gearbox. No problem !!! or so i thought.
After trawling the internet for days i entrusted a company called "reconditioned gearboxes" trading as uk gearboxes ltd.
I explained to the guy on the other end of the phone that i would need them to send me a gearbox so my mechanic friend could take mine out and put in the replacement and free his ramp up. To which they said "thats no problem Mr Collins as we have 4 on the shelf matching your gearbox code. we will set to work as soon as you have paid us £786 and you will have your reconditioned unit in 4 days time".
Great i thought.
No ! a few days later they rang to tell me the gearbox they were working on has a major discrepency to my gearbox on the fifth gear and they would not like me to pay to put the wrong one in so .......could i send them my gearbox so they could match it.
LMAO clearly they did not have a gearbox in the 1st place so i asked for a full refund which they agreed to. 2 weeks later and a lot of heated telephone conversations i received my money back.
It has now been 4 weeks since my van has been off the road. = 4 weeks without any earnings.
I have called over a 1000 breakers in the uk and i cant believe no one has one...."These things are as rare as rocking horse ****" said one guy.
My main fiat dealer wants £2226 + vat excluding fitting for a reconditioned gearbox and £4500 + vat for a new one.....
I have since found a citroen relay 2.8td 5 speed manual gearbox at a local breakers for £250.
Does anyone know if this would be compatible with mine ?
Please please help :bang:
