Gear problems!!! Help.

Hi I'm new to this forum and thinking of taking my punto 2000 plate 1.2 16v to a garage to find the problem but would like a little heads up I guess.
I was travelling to work Monday morning and as I was turning onto the road from my house, the car rolled to a stop. I put the car into 1st gear and it wasn't moving anywhere, it also doesn't move anywhere in any gear. Even though the car is in gear, when releasing the clutch it won't even stall when released past the bite point. All the pressure in the gears is still there it just won't move anywhere. I have noticed a grinding sound when pulling away to fast a few days before.... Any answers thanks

Sounds like terminal clutch failure.

Could be, but it could be any component between the flywheel and the wheels. For example, it might be a shaft failure inside the transmission (not good at all) or a failed CV joint (much better) or, as you say, the clutch (somewhere in between).

It shouldn't take long for someone with experience to figure it out. And no matter the problem, it certainly can be fixed.

Yes. Clutches and driveshafts are cheap enough (may as well get a driveshaft from a scrappy, if that's tthe problem). Even a good s/h gearbox can be had for well under £100.
