fuel question

Hello guys,

This is my first post here, I own a 2000 Bravo 1.6 SX and it's my first car. I'm a regular driver and keep things to standard generally. Heck, the only mod I made was changing the casette player with a MP3 player and adding two 13cm speakers to rear

I'd like to know something about the fuel consumption though. Do FIAT engines with ECU have that fuel cut-off thingy? I mean, the system which doesnt send any fuel to the engine when you dont press the accelerator pedal? With cars having that 'road computer', it shows 0(zero) consumption when you dont press the accelerator and I'd like to know if all ECU are programmed to do that

If it didn't send any fuel to the engine when the pedal was not being pressed the engine would stall.

You can't have an MPG if you are not moving

My bad not to state the question well.. No pressure on accelerator, and the clutch is on, say you're going downhill. Actually, the idea is to have the wheels drive the engine, so it keeps turning and hence you have power on your steering, brakes and such and your accumulator is getting charged. I wanted to know if ECU really stops sending fuel in such a situation, so that I can either neutr the gear and idle, or keep the car at gear and keep going downhill to achieve fuel economy

any info?

Now thats a desperate way to get better MPG.

Unless you are planning on rolling all the way down a mountain it won't make any difference.

I don't know if this is true but on a top gear show that i watched when he did that 800mile run on 1 tank of fuel jc said that you use less petrol slowing down with the clutch out rolling in gear than you do with it in and out of gear.
