Technical Fuel pump - doesn't make noise, after 10 mins it is good

Hey guys,

New problem appeared on my 1.1 2006 Fiat Panda. I went to the shop and stayed for 1 hour there. Then, I tried to start the car but I couldn't hear the fuel pump. Car started fine and it died immediately. I did that 3 times in a raw without any success.

After that I was trying to reach some mechanic for about 10-15 but couldn't find anyone.

Then I went in the car, gave contact and BOOM - fuel pump is working! Everything is back to normal as before.

Any ideas what went wrong? Fuel pump, relay or ECU?

I will check again in the morning to see if it happens again.

F18 provides power to relay T09

when energised provides power F22 and the pump. Internal to the pump assembly is a diaphragm pressure regulating switch.

the earth can be broken via the inertia switch

The fact you noticed there was no pump noise and the car stopped after a few seconds probably means the pump is getting quite noisy. They should be barely audio. They get noisy when they are on the way out ?


If T09 isnt working I would expect some of the lights on the dash not to operate correctly

I think it is fine. No way to test it...

Update: Today it died completely. Luckily I was at the service when it happened. They changed the fuel pump with a new one. For now it is good. We will see in a few days if it stays like this.

You are right. As far as I know the fuel pump gets noisy when it is on the way out. Maybe this time it died in a different way.

All lights on the dash were operating as usual.

With the new fuel pump (I changed only the pump engine, not the whole unit) there aren't hesitations anymore when I put my foot off the gas pedal.

Yes all problems are solved.

One thing that bothers me now is with the new pump that is loud. I can hear it at idle. Is that normal? Brand is Hoffer

Not on the the three Pandas I have owned. Except just before one failed



It might be different with a none genuine part ?

It should be genuine part, not Siemens / VDO but a Hoffer one. I cannot be 100% sure. Gonna see how it behaves
