Hi there I have had this problem when I start car it is fine but when the water temp is upto to the point when fan kicks in is all fine to but when go out for a drive for about 10 mins or sit still for about 1min with foot on accelerator doing 2000 rpm then let off pedal the injector light comes on
I have checked injectors an they are fine it ha had new water pump new thermostat new coolant temp sensor I have noticed though there's like a browny chocolatey froth coming out of the bleed valve when bleeding water and from the reserve tank I have recently done a head gasket change had it skimmed etc but it doesn't effect the performance of car and it passed it emissions the other week any ideas please I'm thinking about doing a water flush what the best way to fill and bleed system and to what level when cold etc please

That's the problem I can't connect to ecu keeps disconnecting so I can't read the codes grrrrgh

poor earth for the ecu perhaps...? i never had IAW Scan disconnect unless the wrong ecu type is selected - also on a side note to that; the auto detect ecu thing has never worked for me, you aren't just using that are you?? If so try selecting the ecu from the list instead.

Failing that, i would suspect the cable you got.

Blu what cable you using to connect with I've tried vag com and elm lead still no joy also is it because I'm using the free version of ecu scan or would there be more options on the full version I have the Punto elx 90 and there isn't much in ecu choices only one and a airbag one on th list when I click on it

These are the leads I have and this is all I get on the screen I've tried different ecu diag programs and still no luck

what program is that? Don't look like IAW Scan, try that - http://sourceforge.net/projects/iaw-scan2/

I would be using the 3pin adpator connected to the Vagcom cable. I just use the car battery terminals for the power wires on the 3pin jobby. Connect that to the laptop before opening IAW Scan. My Vagcom doesn't have that switch thing on it so dunno what that should set to.

If that don't work i dunno what to suggest other than clean the diagnostic plug on the car and/or try a different vagcom cable

Yeah its a great bit of software, MES is good too (think thats what your screenshot is of) but you need to purchase a licence really before you can do anything but read codes with it - I have both as i need MES for the alfa but i have never tried using it with the punto or cinq or sei as IAW Scan is brilliant simple software for them...

So you use vag com and 3 pin connector can't you access on the elm 327 at all

never tried, i had the vagcom cable way before i had an elm - i had to buy the elm for my alfa more recently.

Looking at the MultiEcuScan website though, there is a supported vehicle list and what cables are required, on there it doesn't have elm against a Punto 75 so i would have thought that means that one won't work on that car period. Says you use the 3 pin and either vagcom or obdkey (not ever dealt with obdkey before myself so can't comment there)

Will I just need a standard vagcom lead with no switch on it as this switch is supposed to change pin settings instead of buying seperate leads also my 3 pin connector has a red and a black wire with crocodile clips on for a power source

oops sorry, well thats 3 rows down and says exactly same thing.. No actually sure if IAWScan does the 90 or not tbh. MultiEcuScan should connect and read codes, can't remember if it lets you clear them or not without licence (i have registered copy and can't remember what is and isn't allowed on free version but says on the site).

But i think we can safely say if you were trying with the elm then thats why it doesn't work.

Would I need to buy the colour leads for the vagcom or just use vagcom only

Ok I might just buy a normal vagcom without switch on it and see if that works

You should be able to use the vagcom cable you have. I think from memory you need the switch set to 1 (left side). The other 3 posistions are for reading codes on newer cars you may need to look at the settings for you usb port. I now have a dedicated laptop that only has USB1 ports.

So I don't need to buy the coloured cables then also does it support 3 pin connector as this is what I have in engine bay going to ecu
