The fuel injection light comes on periodically in my car, the light stays on for about five seconds, during this period the power decrease is noticable, can anyone tell me whether a fuel injector cleaner will solve this or am i ****ed?

Engine size?

If the light is coming on then something is faulty. Best to take it to Fiat and they can read the fault code that is causing the light to come on. Much easier than trying to work out whats wrong for yourself.

Re: Re: fuel injection light

sorry tom 1.4 bravo, there does not seem to be any pattern in time when it occurs,

Re: Re: Re: Re: fuel injection light

thanks tom for the help

Re: Re: Re: fuel injection light

Hmm.. does not sound injector related. Could be the throttle pot. I'd get it looked at by Fiat. At lesat then you will know for sure.

There are just toooo many variables to make an easy diagnosis without a fault code reader.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: fuel injection light

Check the "injection system lights stay on" mail that I've just put back to the top for you as this is a common problem.

Shabash!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: fuel injection light

The only prob with the bravo guide is that the recommended actions won't fix the problme causing the light to come on. :)

Potentiometer

In the case of a numjber of people the cleaning method has worked, which is why it is on there.

However it is very much appreciated that the guide cannot cater for every malfunctions only common ones.

One that I will be adding as soon as I get 10 minutes is the throttle potentiometer malfunction. This is the cause of 95% of injection system problems on Bravo/a & Marea and is a known fault to Fiat. I have the problem on my HGT occasionally - in fact - now! A new potentiometer is diagnosed and can indeed be fitted but the actions carried out on the fix are the same as putting a new one on! CLEAN THE CABLE BLOCK and secure it.

As soon as I get chance to write it up with some pics it will be on there.

Lastly, if you can contribute to the guide it would be very much appreciated Tom.

Cheers

Nige

Re: Potentiometer

If the light comes on then 99% of the time something electrical has failed, either injectors or sensors. If you've just got a bad running car with no light then cleaner might help. For the sake of a few quid its worth getting the fault codes out of the ECU. There are alot of independant Bosch/Weber injection specialists that can read them for you.

I've got a few things for the guide, its just a case of sitting down for more than 2 mins and doing it. :)

I just wish I'd photographed the injector change. It was pissing with rain and I just wanted to get it done.
