Technical Fuel Guage Reads Quarter More Than Fuel In Tank - 2004 2.0 JTD

A while back, my Scudo's fuel guage started giving a false indication of what's in the tank. It's always over-reading whatever's in the tank by quarter of a tank.

Eg. -
If there's quarter a tank of diesel in tank, guage reads half.

If there's half a tank of diesel in tank, guage reads three quarters full.

When the needle gets down to the bottom of the half full part of guage - meaning the tank is actually empty - the guage then drops down to empty and the fuel reserve light comes on. The needle never stays anywhere in the empty to quarter full part of guage.

Any ideas much appreciated.

you will need to test the sender unit in the tank.

I have a multi meter. Do you know the procedure for testing the sender?

The sender is just a variable resistor.
