Technical Fuel filters??

So a fairly straightforward fuel filter change job on my 2007 Ducato. Old filter is on the right, the new filter which came from Euro carparts is slightly different and has a plastic ring around it which I'm not sure should be on it or not? Has anyone seen these filters before and do the plastic rings stay on them?i should add that the plastic collar slides up and down but not off.

If it'll fit the housing with it on I'd leave it on, can't do any harm

Lots of cartridges fit the housing but all look slightly different.
Make sure you close the housing with the proper torque, using a special cradle tool, NOT a vise, otherwise you're in for a nasty surprise.
