is it true that a brava sx 1.6i 16v 2001 reg does NOT have a fuel filter? so a basic service would just be oil change and oil filter? or if its time maybe sparks plugs and air filter too?

Yes, the fuel filter is on the fuel pump in the tank - no need of changing.
