I have a 2.8TD,1999, T Reg, and the Fuel Filter warning lamp will not go out. This has only identified itself in the last week or so. The vehicle is currently parked up as it is a motorhome and does not get used this time of year. The weather here has been wet of late and is currently a very damp atmosphere. I have tried wiping down the leads in case any damp was causing a false warning but to no avail.

I checked the owners manual which, on page 122, advises loosening the drain nut on the base of the fuel filter and draining any condensate which has accummulated, this I did but nothing, either water or diesel came out. The manual also says that when the ignition switch is in the MAR position the warning light should go out after a few seconds.

The engine starts and runs satisfactory when stationary but I have not moved it.

Can anyone offer some advice please.

The vehicle is scheduled to have it's MOT in early Feb and I would like to get this problem sorted out by then.

Hi mate,

When you undo the drain plug at the bottom of the filter, either diesel or diesel and water should come out. Nothing either means that you didn't undo it far enough, or that there is no fuel in the filter, which isn't good. Does it start OK?

Thought I'd let you know the latest. Opened Fuel filter drain plug with only diesel coming out, no water!!!!. Anyway after a long talk with my local garage we decided to do one thing. Check the earths at the dash. Remade made the earths and all appears to work satisfactory.

It would appear that whilst the vehicle has been idle since xmas a high resistance earth has formed which was causing the lamp to stay on, when the earth was cleaned up it works OK.

This is the only explanation we can come up with.

Maybe of interest to other users.
