Hi,

I need a new front subframe, its failed MOT, i've got someone who can fit it but they have tasked me with finding the part online which i am struggling with to ensure its an exact match. There are bunch on ebay that look about right from breakers but how do i confirm?

I have a 2007 plate motorhome with a 2800CC engine (which probably means its a 2006 or 2005 van chassis.

VIN is ZFA24400007677016 i've looked this up on https://eper.fiatforum.com/ but nothing for subframe

This one looks correct https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22601334...013349648&rb_pgeo=GB&toolid=10044&var=0&ff=11

but thats off a 2.3L so i've no idea if its the same.

Can any one help at all,

Many thanks!!!

I think you will find the 2.3 subframe will be wrong as later design engine and gearbox, so probably not compatible.
But still worth checking. You could ask the seller if it will fit giving all the details, then if it doesn't under eBay rules they are obliged to refund costs.:)
Trouble is 2.8 Sofim engined Fiat Ducatos are getting increasingly rare.

Hi Robin,

What you have is a 244 model 2.8jtd, and suggest that the year of registration is not relevant to you search. Production of the 244 model ceased in mid 2006.

I am interested to read that your front subframe has failed due to rusting.

A more common failure is corrosion of the front cross member below the radiator

Are you sure that there has not been a failure in communication?

The cross member is more frequently mentioned on forum, and I think that there is a thread or guide describing its replacement.

I have to disagree with our respected member @bugsymike who has a wealth of practical experience to draw on.

They front subframe fits behind the engine so I do not see why it should have to change with the engine.

While 2.3jtd was a later design, both engines were options for the 244 model, and used the same gear ratios in the MLGU gearbox.

My apologies for errors, without looking at the vehicle I assumed the subframe supported the engine and gearbox and due to the fact the 2.8 is a different design to the 2.3 in so much as the gearboxes will not fit on the different engines, I believed that could cause a problem.
Hopefully as @Communicator mentions the rust may be limited to a simpler area to correct.
Also as he mentions the 2.3 and 2.8 engines were both used in that chassis series so hopefully it is just a case of different removable mountings between subframe and engine if applicable.
I see you mention your vehicle is a 3.5 tonne version, so the heavier duty suspension version, this may affect subframe /suspension areas, but I cannot confirm.
Any knowledge I may have claim to ;) is more the 2.8 engine design where related to the several Iveco Daily's I have owned and worked on in the past and they of course are rear wheel drive, plus of course I have several trade Technical Service Data manuals mostly related to engine data though, if of help.:)
