Front shock absorbers!

hi mates: I've left my Fiat Brava for MOT this morning and was told that the front shock absorbers needs to be replaced so as to pass the MOT. The quote is £335 +fitting charges (Nationwide autos) Do you guys know a place to get cheap ones? - Thanks

THREE HUNDRED QUID? Wow!

KYB front shocks are about 50-60 a pair and about 1hrs fitting. Thats maybe £150 worst case.

Many many thanks friends! I removed the car from Nationwide Autos & they charged me £40+ for a failed MOT. The KYB quote is £50.67+ fitting. The Nationwide Auto guy says the KYB stuff is a crap... who cares? Thanks folks!!!

i think they should do a free retest if you go back within a fixed period.

£40 seems a lot for an MOT, i've paid between £17 and £25 i think.

KYB stuff isn't crap at all, they're better than a lot of suspension manufacturers and used as standard on Lexus cars, hardly gonna fail after a couple of months are they.
Bilstein are probably better though and are a similar price to KYB on the front, so try and get them. As standard on Ferrari etc.

£40 is about the standard cost for an MOT.

Cost update!

Hi mates, It had cost me £120, including a pair of new front shocks & labour charge, with my local (mobile) mechanic to fix the problem. This means a savings of £335 compared to the price quoted by Nationwide Autos.

When Nationwide autos quoted the exorbitant price, they mentioned that I can collect '1 club card point' for every pound spend with them. So, I lost 335 club card points by not accepting the rip off quote, which makes me sad...(???)

lol. well saved, still waiting for mine to come, had to do a motorway run in the strong winds last night, not safe at all Amazing what a difference it makes.

I fort my tyres were flat, the amount the wind was just drifting my car about. Although this was mid-day today and it didnt seem particularly windy.
