Hi guys.. I’ve just had wish bones and cvboot done at a local garage. This cost me a small fortune. I’ve only just collected the car and it’s an absolute mess. The front bumper isn’t on properly with gaps both sides where it attaches to black wing clips.. but I can’t see these clips.

I’ve had my bumper off plenty of times, but do I just take it off and fit it again, or take it back and tell them it’s not right. I’m confused how it’s pulling away from the wings when they should ‘clip’ in a fixed position

My problem is I’m autistic and this is beyond my comfort zone.. going back and suggesting they’ve broken my bumper clips

Thanks steve

The other side isn’t as bad, but this side is hanging and pushing out, I can push it in with my finger and it just pushes back out. The is a m6 10mm nut and bolt on the other side and I can see that just needs a loser and tightened when in correct position

Personally I’d say it’s either not fitted correctly or the original bracket that’s riveted to the wing: one of the tabs has snapped off!
It’s not uncommon as it’s plastic but hopefully they just didn’t fit it correctly!

If the bracket is broken and you need new steer clear of the aftermarket brackets .. they are rather stiff and trying to re fit the bumper after replacing is not fun!!!! As I know! I bought the genuine ones and they take the bumper perfectly

As for the garage! Unfortunately most places are the same these days .. in the past I’ve had bits “lost” from my car and they don’t tell you either
This is why I do all my own work these days

Hi guys,. Ok sorry not been back on,. I was going to deal with this the nextday in work,. Instead I was clamped outside my home for no tax. Not cool at all.. you need mot for tax, I picked the car up at 16:40 and drove 2miles home. So I had that destroying my day.

Right, I will work bottom up… left side 2 correct bolts, next bolt m6 and the washer has bored a hole.. next has a screw.
Drivers side wing to bumper has a m6 forced in. Other side has a m6 nut/bolt.
Slam panel has the rusty bolts that are meant for under the car as the new slam panel was tapped with a m6.
They’ve snapped the click clip mounts.

They garage telling me that’s how it came in. I’ve owned this car 4yrs and understand how to fit and remove my bumper in 10mins… oh my how can somebody do this to my car..

Where they’ve forced the m6 into the wing, they’ve bent a lip outwards on both sides because they’ve used a spanner and not a socket.

Personally I’d have had a word with the manager & obviously never used them again! And told everyone I know!!!

This is exactly why I no longer go for work doing on my car …. Unless I can’t do it of course
I got sick & tired of someone abusing my car when they are being paid to fix it!!

That lip should gently bend back but could break the paint! As for the bolts .. do what you can some grease may help lubricate I just hope your threads are ok!

This is a massive local garage, it’s the manager that’s dealing with me,. He doesn’t want to see the car. His 30yr experienced body shop man did this. So I’ve replied asking if he would like a picture of my clips, he seen the picture with my bumper off, but now clips are missing he doesn’t want to see the picture, nor a picture of my car when I took the bumper back on picture 1hr before I dropped it off for the wishbones. I have a dashcam showing me this guy is not 46yrs of age. But now he does want to see my car! An now I can present to him what his body shop guy has done. Couldn’t be assed holding my bumper in the correct position whilst over tightening every bolt on my car.

I stripped the car down last week, took every bolt off apart from 1 rounded wishbone bolt.. the one in chassis leg. Both sides, all was left was that one bolt and split the ball joint with my splitter I’ve owned for 20+yrs.
I tried and failed to remove the one bolt, I had no leverage on axle stands and gave up. I went and explained, showed him pictures.. now this place is massive.. his reply was, this is what we do! Ok we agreed a price, 2 wishbones, cv boot and MOT, now because I said my budget was £500 that gave him the right to this to my car. I don’t get it. The want to see the car now, they have made 2x 2p holes where they over tighten and not even bother taking the bolt out and putting a bigger washer on. Or never phoned saying I need this and it will be this much..

I can’t let this go, it’s a £900 week for a car that does 2000 miles a year. It’s mint , was mint. 52k 11yr old
My tyres match, the brakes are new, 52suspension.. now they blame me for it

I completely understand and empathise with you! There’s not much you can do about it except never use the place again!!
In my own experience a lot of places don’t care! It’s not their car they are short on time & as for proving they broke or lost something….. forget it! They will lie through their teeth and you would get nowhere

The best thing to do it try your best to repair/replace and put it down to experience! It’s not right & it’s not fair you weren’t the first & you won’t be the last

Perhaps contact citizens advice if you think its worth it get a professional report(that costs) see if your insurance covers legal expenses advise the garage you're taking legal advice give them the option of fixing the issue with your overseeing the repair if that fails get more advice

I think you should take it on the chin and never return and warn others on social media. If they are not wanting to do the right thing then they can suffer n other ways. I think you would be wasting your money as all courts require evidence to make a decision and there is no way you would be able to prove that they did it and you'd end up with a legal bill.
