my exhaust has come off, and is pretty rotten so was thinking o f getting new one straight out of side of bumper somewhere!

anyone any opinions?

maybe tom can answer - woudl having exhaust lenght short have any detrimental effects?

allan isnt urs a powerflow jobby. they have a life time garrenty. well my mates does. if it has take it back

smee

Yes, having a short one could mess things up but you're turbo'd so its less of an issue. Also the turbo will cut out quite a bit of the noise (as long as the wastegate is closed ;)).

Theres an exhaust like that on the 900hp RCDevelopments Evo that's been in Max Power lately.

It looks brilliant but I imagine making one that works properly would be quite a specialist job and not the sort of thing you'd want your local Powerflow monkey doing!

Plus surely the exhaust fumes in stationary/slow moving traffic would be pretty bad...?

re

nah, mine wasnt powerflow, it was a place called maniflow, and it was only a mild steel one as io coudlnt afford stainless at the time!

it has lasted a good 4 years so am happy with it.

hmm, well, mines got the turbo, so might whip bumper off at weekend and see it i can see an easy route for it.

funmes woulldnt be much differnt to normal sucking up fumes of the car infront i guess?

the evo is where i got the idea!

i was thinkgin just a bend, short length of pipe, then backbox with tip out side of bumper somewhere.

Re: re

Maniflow are still going?! Wow!

Might be worth your while looking at some mid engined cars, just a backbox may not prodvide anything like enough silencing as its designed to sit on the end of 6-8 feet of pipe.

A kitcar exhaust such as a caterham/super7 style or even a stock motorbike exhaust can (not a race can though) might be best.

re

yepo they are still going!

and will put as much soundproofing in etc as you like to might go back and discuss it with them!

just go for one like on the a-team van, that was classy!

Had this discussion on the renault turbo forum - front exhausts are apparantly illegal. The evo with the front zorst will not be road legal...

Dean

That was also mentioned! :)

They aren't classed as the same as cars, so the rules do not apply... Apparantly a side exit around 3/4 of the way down the car is ok. But there's also a maximum that the exhaust can stick out when on the side. (Safetly issues i guess...)

Shorter exhausts will generally help spool-up time on turbo'd cars - but people have likened the noise to that of a tractor!

Here's a quote from one of the guys...

------
some lorries have front exit pipes just befor the front wheels
------

Lorries do not have the same laws as cars.

No it would not be legal in the UK. Exhaust must exit the car behind the mid-point, and not protrude beyond the bodywork by more than a couple of cm.

As well (as Ave said) impractical on a GT Turbo because of the location of the turbocharger. On something like a GTI-R where the turbo sits on the front of the block, between the radiator and the engine, it would work.
-----------------

Having said that, apparantly mclaran SLR has a front exit exhaust?!

re

as long as its not too noisy or too many gasses i didnt realise there was any laws about where the exhaust coudl exit the car?

re

mine used to stick out about an inch? lol

yeah the maclaren slr has it just behind fron wheels i think?

might ringup my mot tester see what he says, i suppose at teh end of the day its what he thinks that really matter sto me!

re

oh and as far as sounding liek a tractor, i'm a farmers son so sounds perfect! lol
