Well, the good news is, I can collect my car on 9th November (1.2 lounge, pasadoble red, white London stickers, sunroof and parking sensors!). The bad news is, because the car arrived in the UK earllier this week, the free seven day insurance will have expired and I won't benefit from it. This doesn't seem fair - the dealer didn't explain this when he told me about the insurance. How on earth can anyone use the free insurance if it elapses before you collect the car? Is this standard practice?

you wouldn't normally arrange the 7 day insurance until the dealer tells you they want to tax it. I recall we arranged this with Norwich Union (they'll always be NU to me) who send cover note to dealer who can then tax it. You then have the balance of the 7 days to get there, collect it and take it away. Would be odd insuring it before it's in country and surely dealer wouldn't have given you the reg number until they were fairly close to hand it over?

I went to the dealer yesterday to sign the HP paperwork and was given the date of 9th November to pick it up - the dealer hasn't even got it yet! I'm very concerned because Fiat Insurance have just emailed me today to say that the free insurance will end in two days and I need to arrange cover. Surely I don't have to insure the car when I won't be driving it for another 9-10 days? Who will insure it for the period between 1st and 8th? I'm starting to think the dealer has made a mistake. Any further advice would be very welcome. Should I ring Fiat?
